I installed new belts in this unit. RCA RP7999 Mega Bass boombox with power cable included. You can expect the usual minor scratches, dings, and dust. Year of manufacture was 1999, and it seems to be a rare model.
The tape deck works and will play record at the correct speed. The unit initially made a very loud 60hz humming sound on both headphones and speakers, which I nearly eliminated by adding several electrical components. I adjusted it the best could, but its far from perfect. Some discs play better than others, and many are un listenable.
This boombox can put out a good deal of volume, and the bass boost button does exactly what it says. It is in working order, but the CD drive inconsistent and will often skip or make weird crackling noises. I think the laser might be weak. By design theres no auto stop.
I don't know if that fault is common to all of these RCA RP7999 boomboxes, but in any event you can be assured this specific unit won't overwhelm with hum. It can still be heard a little bit when switching into cd or tape mode, but the music completely drowns it out. It sounds good for a portable player. Cosmetic condition is good given its age.
Its a very basic deck, and will only record from CD or radio no aux jack. The power cord is polarized. It can also be powered with batteries, though I haven't tested it so can't comment on the battery life.
